VINCE WAS TONGUE-TIED for probably the first time in his life.
He watched Colleenâs fingers tremble as she tried to fit the key in the lock. Gently, he took it from her and unlocked the front door.
Stepping into the house, he felt strangely out of his depth. He could have seduced any other woman pretty much by rote. But this woman reduced him to a bundle of nerves.
What if he said something wrong? Did something wrong? Offended her by even suggesting intimacy?
Then he cursed himself for being every kind of fool. Colleen was exactly what heâd been trying to avoid. A woman who touched off emotions in him heâd never experienced. This uncertainty was unknown territory for a guy who generally was smart enough to avoid entanglements. It scared the hell out of him and had his libido racing all at one time.
âVince?â She touched his arm. Her eyes shimmered in the weak light seeping through the curtains. âStay with me tonight?â
He groaned, pulling her close, kissing her deeply, aware only of the scent of her, the feel of her and the absolute rightness of her response.
She ended the kiss what seemed like hours later. Her palms were warm as she laid them against his face. âMake love with me?â
The last vestiges of Vince the Chivalrous prompted him to ask, âAre you sure?â
âVery sure,â she murmured. âCome on.â Tugging on his hand, she pulled him toward Patrickâs room.
Vince stumbled in the dark and swore. Colleen giggled, collapsing on the bed, taking him with her. Then her lips found his, and he accepted the invitation. The sound of his breathing and her murmurs seemed to echo off the walls. Her skin was like silk beneath his fingertips, so soft and supple. Her scent surrounded him. Burying his face in her hair, he inhaled deeply. She smelled so sweet.
He wanted to explore her body, inch by inch, with the slow dedication she deserved. He slid his hand under her shirt, and she shivered when he traced the outline of her bra. The shirt had to go. He removed her Angels T-shirt with tenderness and care, first one sleeve, then the second and finally pulled it over her head.
Continuing his exploration, Vince marveled at her delicacy. A wave of protectiveness washed over him. She was so very precious.
Her wrist was tiny, but her pulse beat strong and sure beneath his lips where he kissed her soft skin. He trailed caresses up her arms and shoulder and teased her with his tongue.
Her breath caught when he found the sensitive spot at the hollow of her throat and nibbled.
Sliding her arms behind his neck, she tried to draw him to her for a kiss.
âNot yet,â he murmured. âLet me love you.â
Colleen made a noise low in her throat, half moan, half laugh. âYouâre torturing me.â
âWant me to stop?â
Sighing, she dropped back against the pillows. âNot on your life.â
He reached above the bed and opened the blinds a fraction, allowing enough light in so he could see her better.
